As we enter the new year, construction and utility companies have an opportunity to fortify their commitment to worker safety. Consider a few resolutions for a safer and healthier jobsite in 2024
While safety is a central value for construction and utility companies, the concern for worker safety might not be as prominent for those in managerial positions, creating a potential gap between workers and their bosses.
Take charge of safety by including it in top-level plans. Think about safety plans for the whole company and join in on-site activities like safety audits and group discussions.
Commit to proactive safety training and communication. Encourage daily safety meetings and regular safety stand downs addressing timely topics, ensuring consistent and informed vigilance among workers.
Get your workers involved by asking open-ended questions, having experienced auditors talk to them, and doing checks right where they work to really understand the situation.
Make things safer by fixing problems that lead to unsafe practices. Slow the pace, keep workers from feeling rushed or help keep them from getting used to taking risks. Give them enough time for tasks to lower stress levels and keep safety a priority all day.
These plans are like a guide to make safety better in 2024 and beyond, creating a safer workplace for the future.
